Privacy
Live Shoppers shows a store owner what shoppers do on their own Shopify store. This page explains what it records. Last updated 3 November 2026.
What is recorded
- Shopify's standard storefront and checkout events: pages and products viewed, searches, cart adds and removals, checkout steps and the order total.
- An anonymous browser id from Shopify, a scrambled cart key, the device type, browser language and time zone, and where the visit came from (for example "Google ad").
- When a shopper identifies themselves to the store (logs in, enters checkout details or buys): their Shopify customer id and first name with the last initial.
What is not recorded
- No IP addresses. A scrambled, store-specific fingerprint of a network is kept only when the store owner marks it as their own staff.
- No checkout emails: an email is used once to look up the matching Shopify customer and is never stored.
- No phone numbers, street addresses or payment details.
Consent
The pixel runs inside Shopify's customer privacy system as an analytics pixel, so it follows each store's cookie consent settings.
Keeping and deleting
Events are kept for up to 400 days so the weekly report can compare weeks. When a store asks Shopify to delete a customer's data, we delete that customer's id and name. When a store uninstalls and Shopify asks us to erase the store's data, everything recorded for it is deleted.
More
How we protect this data: security. The agreement with stores: terms.
